Part II -- What would you do with a $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card, training, and help from a SCORE mentor to grow your business?

HAVING A SCORE MENTOR MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

During the first year of my business there were some seriously uncomfortable hard knocks financially, but there was never a time that I thought about quitting. It’s kind of like having to solve a Rubix Cube puzzle.  You want to at least get all of one color on one side of the cube to feel accomplished, only to realize that you have to let go of the false sense of progress to move forward.  There is no setting the cube down.   That is how I know that God has given this to me -- I still have the cube in my hand after many thumps.  So many awesome people have been placed in my life to help me solve this puzzle.

We all need people in our lives who get what we are trying to accomplish.  I value my friendships with other entrepreneurs.  Special thank you to some awesome entrepreneurs who have helped me along the way, please read blog post:  A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS.

 ACCOMMODATIONS THAT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS

In April 2017 the champions of the #SCORE American Small Business Championship were treated like royalty at the Joule Hotel in Dallas, TX.  This incredible experience was included in an all-expense-paid trip to network with the other winners, receive business training, and be presented with the $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card.

The organizers of this event thought of everything.  There was a ride waiting for me when the plane landed that took me straight to the hotel.  Everything had been prearranged for me, but I was not expecting the amazing hotel experience.  I immediately created a group text with my daughters and husband so I could share the fun with them.

Staying at the Joule was a big deal.  Literally from the sidewalk, I felt like they knew I was coming all the way from South Carolina to stay in their hotel for two nights.  I am sure they treated all the winners the same way, but it was an incredibly welcoming experience for me.   It felt like they knew just how hard I have worked to get this far and they wanted to make sure I knew that I deserved this treatment.

The Joule Bar

Until tomorrow indeed... I love turndown service.

There was a welcome bag at the front desk for me when I checked in that contained all kinds of little goodies from SCORE.  There was even a gift from Hal Shelton, one of our #SCOREMentor presenters.  I now have a signed copy of his book, The Secrets Of Writing a Successful Business Plan.   When I finally settled into my room I kicked back and started reading Mr. Shelton's book.  Any anxiety I felt about being away from ‘business’ was instantly swept away when I put my head on the pillow.  I could go on and on about how spoiled I felt during those two days.  Thank you to all of the #SCORE judges and personnel who arranged such a wonderful trip.  Thank you to #Samsclub, and #SCOREMentors for making all of this possible.
